– CHALLENGE PRO CUP BATTLE ROYAL (WINNER DETERMINES HIS OWN OPPONENT FOR THE CHALLENGE PRO CUP TOURNAMENT) –
“THE HUNK WITH THE TREE TRUNKS” CHASE GOSLING WINS LAST ELIMINATING RONNY “VERONICA” METRO
One week ago, it was announced before the Premier Planet that, starting at PPW #155, the Challenge Pro Cup would be making its return to PPW to be contested over by PPW’s best and brightest and that the action would kick off with a battle royal. The prize: an opportunity for the winner to choose his own opponent in the tournament to follow. Other competitors in the battle royal included, but were not limited to, “El Mero Mero” Iniestra, “The World Exclusive” Matt Vine, Jamie Garza, and PPW World Heavyweight Champion Ronny “Veronica” Metro. In the end, it came down to fellow Dirty Boys, Chase Gosling and PPW Champion, Ronny “Veronica” Metro. Interestingly, there seemed to be no hesitation as Chase charged straight for Ronny, catching him off guard and clotheslining him over the top and winning the match. A visibly upset Ronny reentered the ring and confronted Chase, but stormed out in a fit of anger. It was then that Chase took a microphone and announced that he would face bitter rival, Matt Vine, in the first round of the tournament.
– CHALLENGE PRO CUP TOURNAMENT OPENING ROUND MATCH –
“EL MERO MERO” INIESTRA DEF. ZERO 1 BY WAY OF PIN FALL
The 2017 Challenge Pro Cup tournament kicked off with the pairing of Iniestra and Zero 1. While Zero 1 may have controlled a considerable portion of the match, it was Iniestra who fired the first shot, scoring the first fall via pin. With momentum now firmly on his side, Iniestra was able to get Zero 1 on the mat, in prime position for a beautifully executed springboard moonsault which was enough to daze Zero 1 long enough for Iniestra to score the second fall and move on in the tournament. Zero 1, meanwhile, will have one more opportunity to get back in the game before facing elimination from the tournament.
– CHALLENGE PRO CUP TOURNAMENT OPENING ROUND MATCH –
“THE WORLD EXCLUSIVE” MATT VINE DEF. “THE HUNK WITH THE TREE TRUNKS” CHASE GOSLING BY WAY OF DISQUALIFICATION
Having chosen his opponent in the opening round of the tournament thanks to his win in the battle royal earlier in the night, Chase Gosling brimmed with confidence as he prepared to face perhaps his biggest rival in PPW, Matt Vine. Needless to say, the match was intense as near fall after near fall left the Premier Planet on the edge of their seats, but also left the first fall devoid of a winner. Eventually, the referee found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time and was put out of commission thanks to an inadvertent splash in the corner from Matt. Seizing on the opening, Chase went under the ring and pulled out a metal folding chair. With the referee out, Chase proceeded to deliver a hard blow with the chair across Matt’s back. As Chase went in for the pin, a second referee emerged and got into position to make the count, but instead, the ref broke off the count and called for the bell, awarding the entire match to Matt. As Chase seethed in the ring, Premier COO, Randy Ricci, came to ringside and announced that, due to Chase’s actions in regard to putting Scott Colton on the shelf a week prior along with the chair shot to Matt, Chase had been removed from the tournament and would no longer be eligible to compete for the Challenge Pro Cup!
– LADIES MATCH –
SKYE BLUE DEF. LENA DE ORO BY WAY OF PIN FALL
PPW #155 wasn’t all about the Challenge Pro Cup. In an exhibition match, the ladies of PPW squared off as rising star, Skye Blue, took on newcomer, Lena de Oro. Though Lena was able to control the majority of the match, Skye showed off her ever increasing knowledge of the ring by taking advantage of a split second opening to pin Lena with a backslide. After the match, the two ladies shook hands and Premier COO, Randy Ricci, who had been watching from the locker room, was so impressed with the match that he offered the ladies a rematch at PPW #156 which both were happy to accept.
– CHALLENGE PRO CUP TOURNAMENT OPENING ROUND MATCH –
“THE WORLD EXCLUSIVE” MATT VINE DEF. HAMMER BY WAY OF PIN FALL
Despite receiving a brutal chair shot to the back earlier in the night at the hands of Chase Gosling, Matt Vine insisted on competing in his next tournament match against Hammer. Taking advantage of Matt’s weakened state, Hammer was able to score the first fall of the match, utilizing a handful of Matt’s trunks for leverage, but Matt managed to seize the second fall the sealed the deal on the third fall with an Earth shaking pendulum slam for the 1-2-3.
– CHALLENGE PRO CUP TOURNAMENT OPENING ROUND MATCH –
JAMIE GARZA DEF. PPW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION RONNY “VERONICA” METRO BY WAY OF DISQUALIFICATION
Going into this match, some might have thought that Jamie Garza drew the short straw by being placed in a tournament match against PPW World Heavyweight Champion, Ronny “Veronica” Metro, but the rookie surprised many by hanging on and giving the champion near fall after near fall with no payoff. That was when Jamie was able to turn the tides, but as he covered Ronny for a pin, Chase Gosling, who had already been thrown out of the tournament for his actions against Matt Vine, stormed the ring and broke up the pin, leading to the referee calling for the disqualification, but that didn’t stop Chase and Ronny from delivering a beat down to Jamie in the middle of the ring until Iniestra came in to even the odds. That was when it was announced that the match had been awarded to Jamie by way of disqualification and that, because of his actions, Chase is now suspended for one week with no pay.
